India’s home-grown AESA radar effort will soon finalise a developent partner, reports The Indian Express. According to the report, a progressive downselect since December — when the DRDO first invited bids — has come down to Israel’s Elta and EADS Defence & Security, following the elimination of Selex, Phazotron and Thales. A recent Livefist post on the Tejas AESA is here. Oh, and by the way, I hear the LCA AESA is being developed under something called “Project Uttam”.
Hope they finalize the partner soon & get it done quickly so that there is no further delay.
I AM NOW EAGERLY WAITING TO KNOW ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT THAT WILL USE THIS RADAR ie. LCA Mk2.
Can it be possible that 2 such radars are use like the one done in PAK-FA T-50 to provide a higher degree of scanning???????
After all the circus, now we are still in the process to select a company that will help us make a Radar, that is essentially brain and spine of the Tejas. Without which, Tejas is a sitting duck.
Its like we have waited for cows to breed and ready to give milk. From which we will make paneer and then our dish panner butter masala will be ready. I know the masala is readymade that we are buying from Supermarket (Engine). When will be my PBmasala will be ready? That too from home grown masala (Kaveri)
Excellent. Now at least they are thinking practically and planning high.
If AESA Uttam gets before 2014, then it should be fitted within Tejas mk2, otherwise it should be fitted in Tejas mk3.
Then gradually all versions of Tejas to be upgraded with AESA Uttam.
Phazotron elimination should indicate something critical to us – Perhaps MIG-35 is out of reckoning. Because in TOT transfer Russia was offering complete TOT of Phazotron AESA alongwith MIG-35.
What a shame!
Dont Know about Gripen, Eurofighter, F16, F18 TOT.
Shiv Ji –
Its clever of you to reveal this news. Good to have you on top of things.
OK so we are going to import everything and then paint it with Indian tri color. I hope this is not going to be like the Dhruv ALH engine where we only foot the bill while a foreign firm enjoys all the IPR.
Shivji…When are you going to post latest update about HSTDV ??
Please post it as soon as possible…
Thanks
I agree with AK – it seems to be just painting a tricolor and then calling it "Indian". I am reminded of an episode about the British when they were developing the A-bomb and the Americans were refusing to share the technology even though the British had a big hand in developing it. Some minister (IIRC Ernst Bevan?)is supposed to have said "I dont care where we get it from as long it as a Union Jack on it". Strange echoes here in all our programs.I am now 50+ and the LCA has just reached "LSP" while in my early working years (30 years ago) I was as proud as anyone here to learn of an "Indian" fighter. Sigh !
Phazotron elimination should indicate that it may be already available on Mig-35 but may not be fitting or suiting on Tejas.
Elta has experience of radar work on Tejas.
Do not critise DRDO or be ready for false CBI cases:

That is the low point !
Well said AK. Well said!
@[email protected],
This is for Tejas mk2. MK1 is flying with EL2032 equivalent. Don't bother with kitchen analogies.
hi shiv do you have any information about mulicaliber rifle being developed by drdo.
Another wonderful indigenous achievement. Kudos to DRDO and HAL.
Russia and China will cooperate in jointly developing and manufacturing a heavy-lift helicopter, a Russian deputy industry and trade minister said on Tuesday.
Denis Manturov said the new helicopter could be based on the Russian Mi-26 and that the two sides were currently discussing the new machine's specifications taking into account China's domestic needs.
"This machine will be oriented toward the Chinese market and the project will be commercial," he said.
The Mi-26 Halo, a heavy transport helicopter with civilian and military applications, is the largest and most powerful helicopter ever to have gone into production.
Manturov also said Russia and China would cooperate in manufacturing aircraft engines
This "joint development" is such nonsense. Why don't we admit we do not have the brain power to build AESA radars, and are instead buying them from Israel? Instead of wasting years in 'co-developing' a RADAR, to which the Indian contribution is the sticker and the name only, let IAF get latest AESA tech by purchasing directly from supplier.
I feel sorry for IAF they have to suffer all the brunt of this political drama.
Considering following three things
1. Appointing a consultant for LCA mk 2
2. new engine choice getting delayed.
3. AESA radar work just getting started
It looks like LCA mk 2 can be ready by 2015 december .
Anyway Best of luck ADA and DRDO
"Italian Selex did not make it to the next round after failing to deposit the earnest money specified in the tender. "
LOL yup no bribes no deals.
Cant Believe it! YeY for team Tejas. Aesa on Tejas will surely kick-ass and will remove any doubt that it is an 4.5 gen fighter. Rock on DRDO, HAL, LRDE.
can India produce anything at all other than babies?
