How on Earth can we base out anti-missile defense on liquid fueled missiles? These liquid fueled designs are so unreliable they are barely considered good enough for attack missions, so with their poor availability they are good enough for shooting down incoming missiles?
Perhaps USA will send an email to Manmohini Singh before launching missiles at BARC? Perhaps China will give us a 3 hour preparation period to fuel and prepare the missile before attacking us?
I mean, it is not as if the enemies will ever attack us suddenly, now is it? Like bollywood films there will be an elaborate sequence before first punch is landed.
the components are being tested hence liquid fuel is used solid fuel will be used in the later stages of testing also 3 hrs time is required for fuelling a icbm smaller missile take less time
Somehow, I see that this missile had a slight angle when it took off. did you observe that. I saw videos on ToI. Tail and nozzle view, the exhaust WRT tail does not look good.
I believe, in this case, the target's trajectory is known which is definitely not going to be the case in real war scenario…. Seems like a lot more has to be done… Anyways, this is just the first step… A journey of thousand miles begins with a single step… All the best…. expecting to see a defensive umbrella system very soon….
Really great news . Reliable ABM batteries is need of the hour. More important than MMRCA. Is Israeli Arrow ABM system better than PAC 3 because Indian government in the past more interested in arrow. Should't we for the time buy procure some S300 batteries to protect our major cities and industrial belts. I read that Indian armed forces evaluated S300 but did not find them very effective. Was it the cost because S300 are considered better even than American ABMs.
To some anonymous fools above: the target is tracked by the LRTR and other radars and it's precise trajectory calculated and then the AD missile is launched. So, the system "knows" where the target is and hence the AD missile orients itself towards the target immediately after the launch. This is also how the system works in "Real" war environment also. What is the point of launching AD missile without knowing where the target is ?
@Rahul… Thanks for clarifying this… i shd have been into a different understanding of the system functionality… My apologies for being a foolignorant, for am just an amateur in this field, very recently became curious of our missile technology, hence posted a comment based on my unerstanding… and fyi…everyone is a fool in some field, that includes U… Hope u are really an expert in this field, or atleast expert enuf to call others fools…Just make India proud, we dont really mind ur attitude….
to anon at 6.05 pm liquid fuel missiles are not that bad NOWDAYS. what you said may have been true a few decades ago but now you can preload the fuel and keep the missile in hot mode for months on end
Relay it g8 time for India …..i also know that how many test required need to complete India need to quick induction this missile in Indian Armed Force…Beware China or Pokis tumhara baap agaya hai ….
To the anon at 0605 – I believe the *TARGET* missile (a Prithvi) is liquid fuelled while the AAD is very much with a solid fuel rocket with an instant reaction capabilities.
There is a generational difference between liquid fuel motors from west, and the Prithvi based "accident-waiting-to-happen" ones which we use.
I hope the previous poster is right, that these liquid fueled rockets are only being used in testing. The deployed version should be a well tested and proven solid fuel motor, perhaps ISRO can internally 'leak' their GSLV booster secrets to DRDO, heheh. 😉
Such systems need a lot of testing to be honest, and we have huge boundaries -both land and water. We'll need nearly a thousand of such anti missile batteries for them to be any effective, otherwise the enemy wil sneak attack from sectors which has no coverage, thus defeating the entire system.
Shiv , how many tests stillwe need to complete .
Beautiful..
But quick Induction in Indian Armed Force required…

God help this country.

Superb pictures…
Go drdo go…
Good to see Prithvi in different color scheam.

are these missiles liquid propellant based? if thats so, this doesnt seem well thought out..

Check out the specs of AAD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Ballistic_Missile_Defense_Program#Advanced_Air_Defence_.28AAD.29.2FAshwin_Ballistic_Missile_Interceptor

from where do these people come from it is not urdu to write in reverse direction ……
PRUTHVI IS A TARGET AND AAD IS THE INTERSEPTOR WHICH IS SOLID FUELED.
