  1. It is not being wasted. Tailhookers are first trained on land before they get to practice at sea. You do 100 hrs on land on a landing strip the size of a flat top deck – in all conditions before making your firsgttry out at sea. And then another 100hrsof normal weather before you do the ultimate test of skill a night take-off and landing in bad weather!
