Shiv, I must say that the quality of your posts has gone down. We don't want publicity hand-outs to be put here. Many blogs do that. Why I kept coming back to your blog was because of the insider reports. These have become few and far between…
Hi Shiv, unfortunately I would second "Cane An". Many of our senior officer lacks the personality vis a vis senior flag officers from Western Forces.
Anon @ a053: :). It is also due to the fact that we are not so physical fitness driven as a society. And though Army has the requirement of BPETs, IAF and IN does not. However, things are changing now and the demands for fitness standards have been raised much higher.
'maratha mind' displays the typical biases of the narrow, conceited marathas, still living off the achievements of shiva ji and periodically exulting in the achievements of the current rogue thackeray clan. it really is immaterial whether the chief looks like a chef or the other way round. what matters is the mind. your face may look like the rear end of a horse, but if you have a sharp mind, that's all that matters. so let's have a mature take on important issues and not get swayed by frivolous 'chief looks like chef' type inanities. as regards him having being picked by Sonia – how do you know? or is it that you dislike sonia so much that you habitually have to associate something, anything negative with her? 'maratha mind' – why don't you focus on your state and rectify the rot that has set in rather than poke your nose in national affairs?
I actually did not want to reply to this hateful post but I decided to reply back.
Maratha doesnt have to be from maharashtra. Maratha nation once included large swathes of northern and southern india. Please refer to wiki article on marathas. So dont confine me to maharashtra. I am just one of the many security aware marathas who live in different parts of india.
your post shows how much hatred and prejudice you have against the former protectors of indian frontiers.
Worshipping Ms Sonia is safe. It has a multi flavor quality to it. And also repeating the ringing tones to "Mumbai is for all and all is for Mumbai". It sounds like a jingle for the genius, Sachin Tendulkar. I believe that Mumbai is not rotting, the proof is in the numbers of migrants pouring in from vast stretches of India. It needs some coalescing and organizing and that is not entirely bad or unpredictable. I also believe that in the military, a physical presence is a part of an entire whole of an aim to create an impression of subtle strength and power. There really is no set paradigm, but between two individuals of equal intellectual capabilities, the person with a winning appearance should get the nod – but wait, in India promotions are given on the basis of political preference or strictly on seniority. I cannot recall barring our earlier years post 1947 and 1971; that we have produced any military chiefs of superior brilliance. I could be wrong, it is up for grabs. Could we learn why the Air Chief is in UK and the subject of his mission? By the way, in my personal opinion the Chief does exude comfortable confidence in IAF power.
ACM Naik has a few 1000 hours of flying experience and fully pilot qualified at present. he has also got a very acerbic sense of humour and is known to be a very tough taskmaster. He is not particularly interested in looking good or preening for the camera. The IAF doesn't train flyboys, it trains warriors who fight to win.
dear 'maratha mind' – i think you are giving yourself way too much importance. who ever said i was disrespecting the 'protectors of our frontier'? shivaji and his men certainly did a yeoman's job. but how am i undermining them by saying that YOUR comments are irresponsible and lacking in intelligence? just because you happen to draw your lineage from the marathas does not mean that whatever i comment about you is transmitted up the ancestral chain. they lived in the past and did what they had to. you live in the present and choose to make frivolous comments on the net. where's the connection? i have absolutely no hatred about the former protectors, i have a problem with people like you. anon @7:18 – well put, mate!
Our Air Chief looks so unfit and like a cheap supari-eating babu compared to other officers in the images. Shame, physical fitness standards must be maintained by jawan and officers alike.
We definitely look at the brain than the brawn but a physique should also count…no discrimination, etc but a predisposition to having a person elected solely on seniority and/or reservation is a bane to our security establishment. The forces should include merit, physique and strategy as the 3 matrices along with KPI for selecting chiefs in ALL FORWARD DEFENSE ORGANIZATIONS. NO EXCEPTIONS AND NO POLITICAL EXPEDIENCIES ENTERTAINED. PERIOD.
