Just about 90 minutes before India’s new defence minister Arun Jaitley got into his new boots at the MoD this morning, a sharp, tragic reality check from the north. An Indian Air Force MiG-21 interceptor crashed in Kashmir, killing its pilot, Squadron Leader Raghu Bansi. The jet took off from Srinagar, crashing at 10:48am about 10-km short of Avantipora, where the IAF operates another base. Will update this post with details.
Buy the rafales please and save our promising young pilots .
Sad…
We expect the new ministers to save more lifes valuable as such and nation assets

Very sad indeed and condolences to the family of Pilot…
Getting to a squadron leader and losing his precious skills is sheer waste to family and above all country…
I think the HAL maintenance should be thoroughly revamped and possibly given to private/public partnership as every single plane is crashing…
Rafale is not the solution for the Mig-21 replacement and it will destabilize MOD budget completely…
I think Mig-21 engine is the problem so we need to get whole technology for Mig-29K, SU-30MKI, Tejas, etc whatever the cost is…Pay them to get the full rights…
LCA/Tejas should be produced on warfooting and updated/maintained in Blocks…

Tejas Mk-1 must be inducted immediately. Invite the local private sector if need be, to ramp up production.
