India’s Nuke-capable Shaurya Tested Again [UPDATED]

The archival video above from the first test of the Shaurya on November 12, 2008. The 750-km range surface-to-surface missile was tested successfully today, DRDO has announced. Will update this post with a video from today’s test later.

Official (unedited) DRDO statement @16.52: The DRDO developed 700-km range Shourya Missile was successfully flight tested at 2.30PM from Launch Complex III of ITR, Balasore on 24th Sep 2011. The missile was launched from a cannister in a ground launch mode. The launch of the missile was perfect like in text book and followed the path exactly to the predefined target in Bay of Bengal. All the Radar Stations, Telemetry Stations, Electro-Optical Stations all along the East Coast have tracked and monitored all the mission parameters. Ships located near the target have also tracked and witnessed the final event. The Missile has reached the target within few meters accuracy. The Missile is equipped with multiple advanced computing systems, very high accuracy navigation and guidance systems. DRDO Chief Controller Shri Avinash Chander congratulated all the scientists and employees of DRDO and other establishments. Director DRDL Shri P Venugoplalan, Director ITR Shri SP Dash, Director SPIC Shri Satish Kumar and Programme Director AK Chakravarti have monitored all the preparatory operations. 1. Shivji, do you have any updates for us on LCH?

Also there were reports on LCA weapons trials .. any pics or details would be nice to know.

    Thanks

  2. @AK
as per Wiki..this has a range of 700km…much more than brahmos which is under 300km to meet MTCR and warhead to 500kg (shaurya is for upto 1 ton

also this test achieved speeds upt0 mach 7.5

  3. fantastic (????) kudos!! nd lots of congo to DRDO for successful launch of shaurya missile . 🙂

nd thanks to u for exceptional reporting (????)

    jai hnd jai bharat

    real indian

  4. friends, the main difference between the shaurya and brahmos missiles are their class…Shaurya is a hypersonic ballistic missile whereas brahmos is a supersonic/hyper-sonic cruise missile, shaurya can carry more payload, having more range and more speed but it s a ballistic missile, the need and operation of ballistic missile is different from that of a cruise missile..for point attack high end capability, cruise missiles are needed by armies bcz they have terrain hugging capability to avoid radar detection or for alerting the target, our brahmos have these capabilities along with supersonic speed and steep-dive which makes it a stealth metal..adding it in the hard points of su30mki makes it deadliest.. adding sagarika in a submarine makes enemy shiver..

  5. @545
i hear saurya is quasi ballistic…it has thrust till the end and does not leave the atmosphere.. goes to(only) 40km height

  6. congrats to DRDO….open champagne …..let's hope this success in replicated in ops firing too unlike brahmos
ANON@9:04 PM……Like our shiv, you too know a lot….but what is this sagarika????been confused about if for sometime now….

  7. @Anon 3:50,
Unlike Brahmos???What do you mean?Brahmos is one of our most successful missiles. It has not performed only once, and that too during complex precision land attack mode. The problem was identified, resolved and land attack and top attack versions are both proven.
