Just obtained this impression of the National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL) RTA-70 — the first that depicts the aircraft as a jet rather than the turboprop (Pratt & Whitney engines have already been mooted for the project) it has always been known to be in concept so far. There are no official indications that it will be a jet, though this impression seems to indicate they’re at least thinking in that direction. The project is currently near the end of its proof of concept stage, and encompasses India’s first attempt at a 50-90 passenger regional aircraft. The following report from Vayu Aerospace earlier this year has all the details.

would it not be logical that for such a craft that we go for an engine that has been locally developed, it makes sense. This aircraft will not be flying at high mach it will never have to deal with trans sonic fluid flows. The engines can be 50-60 KN range which is where the kaveri is right now, as a turbojet with low bypass. As a prototype and proof of concept it would be good to use that as an engine core for a small turbofan. This would be good for the industry and possibly create an opening in the market for a small -medium application turbofan.
Its ugly
NAL is already drawing flak for Saras development. It has been disclosed that they have completely outsourced its development to a private company. HAL should spearhead this project.
Thinking about RTA even before SARAS is complete is just thinking in vain on our government's part.
Pratt & Whitney???
WHY THERE ARE OTHER MANUFACTURERS AS WELL KAVERI CAN BE USED FOR THIS PLANE THEN WHY Pratt & Whitney???
Hi Shiv-ji,
Pls have a look @ the following video described what India was and in reality is….

Sadly find foriegners making use of it..
Wish HT and you would publish and inspire very own HAL to look @ it..
Pls delete my comment, as Pakis may see it….
How soon can we expect a flying prototype, and given that things go at the pace that NAL / HAL are capable of, when can one expect IOC/FOC?
It will probably be not less than a decade or a decade and a half.
What a shameful piece of news from NAL? A shameless shitty organization much worse than HAL. After completely outsourcing SARAS, they talk about a new project??
I dont see why modified Kaveri cannot be used for this "New"outsourced project
I do not know if other's noticed this as well or not, but the first picture of the jet version has a color scheme similar to that of Boeing prototypes (787 the most recent). Can't we come-up with something that is more original. We are designing a whole aircraft here, they why in the world are the NAL folks copying some other companies paint job. Just a dump PR stuff that gives our industry a bad rep.
hey there! i just want to give you a big thumbs up for the excellent information. keep posting!
