  1. Hydrographic survey to
    1. To help Mauritius in better management of its offshore resources, shipping etc.
    2. Deploy INS Arihant there.
    3. To set up a naval base in Agalega islands.

  2. There is no suggestion that the Mauritian govt will allow India set up naval base in agalega also with Diego garcia US will do anything it can to prevent that…

  3. Ramakrishna,
Hydrographic ships are very important. They survey and chart marine routes, conditions, features above surface and below.Data on depth, temperature, underwater topography is collected. These have a critical bearing on maritime navigation and operations above and below surface. For example, temperature differences of water has a critical effect on sonar and submarine operations. Such surveys are of territorial waters are considered quite sensitive. The sea is dynamic in nature, thus these surveys have to be regularly updated also. These are the non-glamorous but very important part of the IN.

  4. HI Anon @ 4.22,

    Thank you for clarifying.

Also request you to tell us more about various supporting ships in IN and their roles.

What else is needed for IN to become blue water navy?
