In the application section, one of the application mentioned is "Anti aircraft guided missile", how is it possible, when the missile destructs, nuclear debris will fall on the ground, that would cause more harm than caused by the enemy aircraft on bombing mission,(well!! until its on a Nuclear toss bombing mission)… neways a good presentation for building exo atmospheric, supersonic, unmanned spy drone.
Secondly, the report smacks of short sightedness. There were several issues which made the original project unattractive. Not just public opinion. Did this guy even do his reading properly or what? Just because it says *begin sparkly fireworks* NUCLEAR PROPULSION, this 'Project Engineer' is touting it as something similar to a dog which just saw a rainbow.

Seriously, I hope the professors who reviewed that report were smart enough to not buy this BS. Sure its technically feasible. BUT NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD ACTUALLY BUILD IT.

instead of this we could try using a zeplin based ballon which has upper part covered with solar pannels made out of cermaics and then the zelplin having a fuel cell based motors and a hydrogen collection unit attached to it along now this zeplin can carry a attached pods for SAR and AESA Radar and if the concept works fine it could carry Air to Air missiles and this complete craft be placed at altitudes of 90K to 120K feets above so that they can scan a wide area well such zeplins can help us provide air to air cover better since they are allready in air the fuel they carry can help then as well as the altitude …
Simple application of common sense shows that this is not a good idea. Given the crash rate of IAF planes, the chances of radioactive fallout over Indian territory are high. Furthermore, even if very high speeds can be achieved, will the pilot be able to handle the aircraft at those speeds? Combat missions are short in duration and current refuellers are already up to the task. Combat planes are much more different that aircraft carriers!
OMG !! it is so incredibly funny.. typical borrowed thinking…. no originality… and by listing these kinds of materials here the quality of this blog is also getting diluted.. anyone who has limited inkling of reactor core design and its practical constrains knows this is just wet dream of some engineers who had lot of time to spare in Google.. we as a nation has not even produced a decent gas turbine engine and here we are talking of nuclear power ramjet and what not.. just associating the brand "IIT" to an article does not make it more credible…
Really surprised that the report barely has any mathametical modeling for the proposed system. Seems more like an Higher Secondary Physics Exhibition/competition proposal. I have first-hand experience with the quality/standards of education imparted at IIT-Bombay for Master's Degree, its a joke. I am more worried about the quality and scope of Fundamental Science's Research in India as opposed to Application's Theory. I don't see any initiative at Governmental level and Academia/Scholars level to focus there research on topics of fundamental Physics, Chemistry and Biology. India hasen't produced any Nobel winning Scientiest in any of these fundamental sciences since Independence. That shows something is miserably anemic at our so-called premier Institutes such as IITs.

Any nuclear powered air vehicle is a waste of time unless you can somehow guarantee that it will never crash.

Hard to say he passed or not, because what part is his own work?
It's like the SpaceX employee who published something about nuclear propulsion, the next day the CEO says he disagrees with it.
Not that this says anything, but this presentation was made at a seminar at AeroIndia last year!
The idea will be good in future when the petroleums will start depleting from the earth. It will be still better if it can be worked up with Thorium.
