  1. Congratulations to HAL, DRDO, GTRE, Midhani, and all involved labs on this great success.

lets hope this ignites a new beginning of more glory and success!!

  2. Testing will be carried out especially with respect to strategy etc. The Tejas is now fighting capable. In Ground atttack role yes. In Air to Air the short ranges missiles yes. Now the remaining things will be tested like BVR missiles etc before the Final operational clearance.

  3. IOC means that an aircraft can be deployed for all purposes except for warfare. this is the penultimate step for any aircraft before it gets the final clearance. Only after the final clearance can an aircraft be deployed for combat purposes.

  4. ya……….tejas is now officially in IAF……but whats it gonna fight…..the left overs of LTTE in Tamil Nadu………hahahaha

  5. I think it is IOC. Then IAF will operate it to get FOC. Whatever it is it is good.

Somehow its production line has to be made faster to accommodate the Tejas-mk2.

  6. production is not much of a problem. Once an assembly line is established, it can easily be extended for more capacity.

IAF won't do any testing. The NFTC has got IAF pilots only for the testing which has been going on till now. Further testing will be done by NFTC only.

Yes… I think the IOC is postponed till mid Jan Next Year. End-time glitches! No problem… ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Abhisek, it will not be inducted right now. Its only certification that it can do its functions as stated. It will be tested extensively by IAF to ascertain its credibility, suitability & strategic functions that it can accomplish. Remember till date it can fly for only 45 mins without refelling. So u can understand that what we can do with such an aircraft except for point air defence.

  8. @ Tanmay
I dont see the point in building too many Mark 1 versions of the Tejas; in its current configuration its pretty much good for airshows.

  9. Production rate depends on how many LCAs IAF plans to order. Current rate is 8-12 aircraft per year. If IAF gives a firm commitment of more orders, then the production will be scaled up. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to install production capacity of 20-25 aircraft per year if only around 40-50 aircrafts will be ordered. After couple of years, HAL will be left with lot of rigs and equipment without any more orders. And these equipment costs hundreds of crores and sometimes even more. It also occupies lot of space too. This is the reason that France closed the Mirage 2000 line as there were no more orders forthcoming.

  11. Have been hearing about the LCA since I was a kid. This seems to be the culmination of a dream.
Heres a toast to everyone involved on the project. 'Your Bird Looks Beautiful'

  12. great news…now tell me can the tejas pull more than 6g?

It has pulled 6G with weaker engine, with much more powerful engine it would score 9G

It can pull its weight in gold, samjha G ?
