To [email protected]: Total projected reqmt is 24, i.e. one for one replacement of existing IL-76MDs. That works out to 16 already in the bag, with eight more to go in future. Another work now in progress involves the KC-777 MRTT variant of the B.777-200LR, six of which are reqd for the IAF. The C-17s, like the IL-75MDs, won't be operating in and out of short-fields. That's the job of upgraded An-32B-100s and in future the IL-214 MRTA.

[email protected]: I visited in mid-2008.
We need more. And we should have asked for the C-17B version with reinforced landing gear if we were aiming for short-field capability.
