DRDO Statement: India’s AGNI A1-06 was successfully tested from Wheeler Island at 0930 hrs on 1st Dec 2011 by an Army team. The missile was launched from a road mobile launcher system and reached its target point in the Bay of Bengal. The missile was tracked by radar, telemetry stations located along the coastline. Two Indian Navy ships located near the target point tracked the missile in its terminal phase of flight. The Agni-1 is already deployed in the Indian Armed Forces.

Is there a video of the launch?
Congratulations to DRDO. But please speed up the LCA, HJT and Arjun Mk2 projects.
Hello Shiv Ji, I have one question for you how comes the DRDO develop so much sophisticated technology like Agni missile. When the same organization is incapable of developing Assault rifle, Rocket launcher, which I assume is not as much sophisticated as Agni-missile.
If already deployed this doesn't have SFC cammo? congratulations!!!

Congrats to India! Message to Pakistan – "Stop its proxy war in the name of jihad"

Pakistani "tax payer" ? Now that is really funny, because that species does not exist.
Shiv, are you sure those pictures are of the 01/12/2011 launch? as from those pictures it do not seems like being launched at 0930 hrs but some times like 0600 to 0700 hrs to the latest.
@Payeng: Was wondering the same. These were the photos the DRDO officially released today, though.
To Anon@ 3:34 PM, lolzzz this is exactly what i was wondering.. How come we make sophisticated Agni missles on one end and struggle very hard when it comes relatively simpler componentsmachines at the other end…
@Heberian: u r right! i was just pre-empting the comments of a certain pakistani "Indian Tax Payer" … :D, Regards, Anon 4:25 am
Dang! DRDO is testing missile after missile these days! What's going on, I wonder…?
Shiv, I have a question. This is already deployed and is in service for years right? then why do they keep testing it again and again.
One word "corruption". If we could import sophisticated missiles then you wouldn't have seen such a successful Missile program. Same goes for ISRO. There is no dearth of talent but some vested interests won't let Domestic military industrial complex succed.
Albeit it may be a routine, training and stock quality verification test, even then its success is commendable.
Congrats to all concerned…
I think they should stop calling it tested….we dont say that the army tested their rifle if they hold a firing practice …or is something new tested in everyone of these
Hey Shiv, wondering about the current role of the Agni I. Is it only intended for a nuclear delivery role against Pakistan? Or has it also been deployed near the border with China for possible tactical usage?
DRDO should fix the terget:
(1) A stealth Hypersonic cruise missile of at least 5000 km range & accuracy of 10 meters (both army & navy versions);
(2) An ICBM of at least 8500 km range & accuracy of 10 meters, which can strike the northern most Chinese territory from any where of our southern peninsula; and (3)most importantly, a fool- proof missile defense shield which can take care of the most modern foreign cruise missiles with zero- failure level.
Missile defense systems(i) (for army, navy & AF) should get top- most priority along with Radars(ii) (for army, navy & AF), Engines(iii) (all types- for tanks, aircraft, naval ships etc.),
satellite defense systems(iv) and Stealth unmanned attack aircrafts(v) in the DRDO's agenda, if we at all want to dominate and win any future war.
If it is already inducted, then why is army not doing the testing? They can call it firing practice then.
@Anon 6:28,
The statement says it,'army team'conducted the test.
Ballistic missiles intended to carry nuclear weapons are not conventional weapons,are very expensive and cannot be simply shot of as part of a routine drill from anywhere.
Thus every such firing is not merely a training drill,but taken as an opportunity to study the performance parameters and also serves as quality check on current stocks.This requires sophisticated equipment and suitable ranges and verification across a range of parameters,hence the usage of words test,which actually they are.
Hey anon @ 4:25 am and 7:27 pm. Cool; and funny 🙂 🙂 Thanks for explaining! 🙂 🙂 Yes, I have noticed that "Indian tax payer's" intersting comments in the past.
