EXCLUSIVE: Russia Formalises Su-35 Offer To India

After mentioning India last July among three countries to which the Sukhoi Su-35 would be pitched for export, sources reveal that Rosoboronexport has now formalised an offer to the Indian government. The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) is understood to have conveyed officially to the Indian government just days ahead of the MAKS 2009 aero-show at Zhukovsky that India has the option of purchasing 16-20 Su-35 fighters — about a squadron’s worth. According to the offer, the production would be prioritised along with the Russian order for 48 jets, a deal that was finally struck once the show opened, but had obviously been finalised many weeks ago. The air forces of Brazil and Venezuela are also considering options with involving unspecified numbers of the Su-35. More details soon.

  1. Russia practicing dumping its junk on third world country shock.

Remember when these equipment get caned, the Russians will just brush it off by saying they never gave you the best equipment anyway or that you are untrainable to their crew quality.

Historical examples: Middle East countries vs Israel.

  2. Shiv, Su 35 for what ?? How does that fit into the IAF long term plans ?? From what i've been reading the IAF in about 10 years would be: LCA Mk 2 (200-220); MMRCA (180-200); FGFA (180-200) and HCA (Su 30MKI-2 upgraded)(220-230). IAF finally seems to have a longterm plan………..with no knee jerk procurements.

  3. Yeah wont hurt us at all. If the Russian AF is going for them, they cant be bad. But one squadron is too few. At least five squadrons.

  4. Instead of 16 aircrafts, just get 126 Su-35 as part of MRCA. Wile physically a 'large' aircraft, it is going to be cheaper to acquire and maintain than western fighters, while being more capable than either Mig-35 or Gripen NG.

Let us standardize around Su-30 and Su-35 as far as airframe is concerned, and focus our attention on ammunition and sensor development.

  5. We have experience in customizing su30 mki to one of the best . Su-35 also should be modified according our needs , India need to place fastrack orders for atleast 5 sqn's to avoid serious deplection in IAF sqn level. India has canceled Howitzer deal ,its easy to cancel all what we need to save our motherland . which we already faces high deplection & unpreparedness .India need to place fastrack orders in Howitzer .

China has manufacturing MBRL ( 350 mm with 140 km & 180 km range two variants to attack india at any moment , but india seems to care very cool like 1962 again. India should try to place order or manufacture MBRL longer range with high playload in fastrack base .

  6. Agree on Standardization/100% need of the hour……..but all eggs in one basket ?? Look at delays/technical issues with the Mig 29 upgrade/also look at perpetual spare part problems; Somewhere over the years it seems to have been decided to go 50:50 with Russian equipment and Western/Israeli equipment: look at the Navy or Army, same logic.

  7. Very Sensible as SU35BM can be maintained and supported by the existing SU30MKI infrastructure. A good way arrest the declining numbers for IAF. Advanced avionics and airframe ensures that Su35BM remains the top dog sukhoi for now.

  8. Condolences to the family of the pilot…………we will wake up for buying howitzers when china will seize some more 1,00,000 sq. kms. from us as they did in 1962……grt indian defence

  9. If India really needs to be screwed left, right and centre, by all means acquire as many Russian junks as possible.

What better way to get all the eggs to break than to put it in one basket?

Looks like Indians never learn from mistakes. They have easily forgotten the Gorshkov saga and the other arm twisting defence scandals.

India can still be friends with the Russians without jeopardizing the defence inventory.

The PAK-FA might still be the eye-opener when the Russians take us for another round of jolly rides paying with our own money.

  10. "If India really needs to be screwed left, right and centre, by all means acquire as many Russian junks as possible."

Hello vincent ????, how are you doing today? Have you met the daily troll quota yet? Hurry up, or your employers will cut your pizza budget and you will burn some of that extra 100 kilo fat you carry as 'famine reserve' on your body.

  11. These are all last ditch offers from the ruskies. The ruskies are sweating SUs & MIGs since they realise that Uncle Sam is fast invading their turf. You've killed enough of my brothers with your substandard MIGs you vodka stinking SOBs, now go sell your crap to the Pakis. Guys, go through past history and you'll realise that it's the western stuff which has always saved our balls when it mattered – Hunters, Gnats, Mirages, Bofors… you name it.

  12. That was not me, Anonydupe, but I need to ask a question:

What makes you think that a Russian Su-27 series or modification, using Russian weapons and Russian-influenced training and at Russian rates of availability (most or less for India), is evidently, with evidence, the best 4th gen fighter in the world today and can outfight the American teen series?

In terms of air victories, there is none. The only planes the Su-27 has shot down are mainly Mig-29s. There is no evidence that the Su-27 with its RCS is better at BVR than American 4th gen planes. In WVR, is there any evidence that with each plane playing to its strength, which is obviously the case, the Su-27 can definitively defeat the teen series? Is it not the case that WVR is a bloody and uncertain bloodbath and that most planes shot down in dogfight situations do not see the planes that shot them down?

Surely the Indians are not such farm-bred simpletons as to base their opinions on air show maneuvers. Surely not, but I am increasingly concerned.

I think that some of you need to eat some animal protein to sharpen your mind.

  13. SU-35 is a big plane bigger than SU-30 MKI the only reason that one can purchase it, there was a simulation dogfight conducted by RAF it shows that 1 Rafale = 1 SU-35 and 1 Euofighter = 2 su 35 we need PAK-FA 50 not SU-35 well if they want to give it as a gift for delaying Graskov and other price esclation issue its fine we will take 16 for no money

  14. Few points:

    1. It's slightly smaller than the MKI and has single pilot.
    2. To those who call this junk. This was the flight that was clubbing the 5th gen F35 like baby seals.

Of course, there is no point in buying this when we have the MKI. But as MKI production is maxed out currently and if Ruskis can produce them faster, maybe we can go for this.

  15. don't even understand how anyone can propose to buy a squadron of this or a squadron of that. shows no understanding of the needs of a real airforce and notions of efficiency & cost effectiveness.
besides any lack of strategic thinking and vision. Your just buying a basket of eggs – u need to use them for the next 30-50 years!! and thats without taking into account delays in selecting an aircraft!

  16. The su-35 has the irbis-E radar which russsian claim that it can detect a rcs of 0.01m2 at 90 km. That means it can detect stealth aircraft.

  17. Government has already finalised F18 hornet as the aircraft. The test flights are an enormous waste of money and time.
The Russians also have their political goodwill and this may be an additional balm to smothen ruffled weathers when F18 is finalised.

  18. The deal is already finalised politically for F 18s.This may be a side deal to smothen the Russian feathers who are anyway our all weather friend just like China is for pakistan.

  19. And Vincent should know that the way Americans 'subtantiate' their warplanes is by waging war on countries at the slightest of a pretext…then taking out virtually the entire air force (on the ground) by surprise, air defences and command centers etc. of that country by using 1000s of tomahawks etc…and then asking their fighter planes to patrol the skies and then saying nobody can challenge our planes….look how good our yanki planes are!!…when there is no plane, SAM etc. left in the country u invaded to challenge you won't u find it easy to say that?….

Go to hell Vincent. People on this blog are too smart for your crap.

  20. Is that what the Israelis did? Er no. But their F-15s still slaughtered the Migs.

If perhaps the Americans know how to do this, perhaps you should learn from them instead of acting like a whiny little bitch?

Or do you prefer to shoot your own places down as Russia did in Georgia?

  21. The israelis were up against Su-7, Su -17, Mig-21, Mig 23 etc…planes a decade behind in tech compared to the F-15.

Go read a history book Vincent.

Bring moderns planes like Mig29, Su30s in the mix and see Israel/US shit in their pants.

Also, the isralis like the yanks are always backed up by AWACS, jamming aircraft etc….

  22. btw, india can't replicate Americans coz India does have a trillion dollar defence budget like the yanks….we have to make do with limited resources and so even used laser guided bombs in kargil sparingly….to save them for a bigger war….

…india can't use weapons to 'prove' they work….only the rich yanks can afford that.

  23. The yanks are not rich. They are the begging bowls of the world(or is it the pukis?). Once the world shifts to alternate currency, Unkil mega budget defense budget would implode like the Soviet Union.

  24. The 5 yr. old vincent is threatening india. Or maybe its his pet parrot doing the typing.

    Now i've heard everything.

btw, let us know when u've read that history book vincent….u'll find it in the library…er the place which has lots of books…

  25. Precision guided weapons actually save money. If you can hit a bunker with one bomb, you save on:

    1. Repeated fuel-guzzling flights to deliver dumb bombs
    2. Opportunity costs of future attacks, such as missing out on other targets.
    3. Danger of getting shot down rises exponentially with more attacks.
    4. Costs of more bombs and maintenance
    5. Indians praising Kargil as a stunning victory when they lost more men in 1999 than the entire Coalition army in Iraq in 1991.

That's why when a Copperhead precision artillery shell at $30,000 costs 100 times more than a normal shell, the Americans still use it.

  26. Even if a copperhead was 100000000000000 times more expensive than a normal shell, the Americans still use it….since they have money coming out of their ass.

also, india lost many soldiers in kargil coz the infantry didnt have body armour etc….becuase of the fucking politicians…and also coz we used air support very sparingly for political and cost reasons..

let the fuckin yankee mountain division (now pissing in afghanistan) come to kargil..take off their body armour….and try to achieve what the indian army did…with only little air support..and see how many yanks die…..

as usual vincent talks shit…but he never gets tired of it…amazing.

  27. why should people fight around on all fours in the dirt with you when they can stamp repeatedly on your face from above

when more indians get onto hotornot.com then you will understand my cool and refined first world perspective…

  28. yes vincent…'when they can stamp repeatedly on your face from above'….let the yanks keep 'stamping' and killing hundreds of civilians as collateral damage…like the israelis did in gaza…that approach will surely win hearts and minds of the insurgents….and win the war.

you deserve to be a general for ur foresight.

  29. Some points vincent is trying to make is worthy of being considered. Lets not make this a conflict between two countries, but rather a debate on su-35 offer to india. Under the current circumstances it would not be viable for India to go for that aircraft coz india already has the same level of fighter in the su-30 MKI. and above all 16 planes would not be much useful as a single squadron of a kind of aeroplane will be much expensive to maintain.

  30. 1. It's roughly the size of the MKI and has single pilot.
    2. To those who call this junk. This was the flight that was clubbing the 5th gen F35 like baby seals.

Of course, there is no point in buying this when we have the MKI. But as MKI production is maxed out currently and if Ruskis can produce them faster, maybe we can go for this.

And it doesn't fit with the IAF's two-seater air superiority fighter doctrine.

  31. Enough of wasting our tax payers money to buy Russian junk. Kick the devil out of the country & ban all dealings with the so called Italian arms dealers aka mafia dons. Allow private sector and 100% foreign investment for defense manufacturing in india and create jobs in our country you fools.
