A Dragon’s Dinner

In these days of high-pitched exchanges about incursions by China in Eastern Ladakh, thought I’d post this photograph, though for no particular reason. That’s me with PLA officers about a kilometer from the Bum La border inside Tibet at a Indo-China Army border meeting in October 2006. And yes, third from left is Kargil hero Colonel Lalit Rai who was, at that time, with the Indian Army’s Korea (190 Moutain) Brigade at Tawang. Seems strange. At the time, here’s what I wrote.

Don't mind but u r looking like a spoiled brat…:D.And is that NAVY CUT packet.Who brought those packets we or the chinese or have they started copying our cigarettes also.??

  2. @last-anon
Ha Ha, i'm down about a bottle of Yunan wine that I was forced to drink. The Navy Cuts would be mine. I had to pass them around in exchange for disgustingly light Chinese smokes. The officer with his arm on my shoulder was telling my dirty Chinese jokes in Cantonese, and his interpreter was translating them. Amazing.

Since you smoke,i have a very good advice.Stop smoking NAVY-CUT….if u earn decent enough switch over to DAVIDOFF or even GOLDFLAKE.By d way i m the last anon.

  4. Well Shiv, the way things are going finally only Navy Cut cigarettes might stop the PLA from invading our country once they decide to go all out. Stationing SU-30s near the eastern borders doesn't seem to have stopped the PLA from coming into our territory for picnics and 'spray-painting' contests.

And what does our army do about it? It just goes around whining and does nothing in retaliation!! When I hear reports of these Chinese incursions and the consequent lack of retaliation on the part our army I wonder in frustration as to why even they bother to man our borders – they might as well leave the gates open for the Chinki 'bhais' to come and take a piss on our side whenever they feel like.

  5. how do you feel shiv? hope they have not drugged the wine served to you ! btw, the guy with his arm around you seems like having gay intentions….lucky for you if you managed to escape in nick of time.

  6. Not happy to see with enemy's ( still i remember 1962 horrible story, the brave soldiers & land we lost to these mongrels .
we like the people of china , not the govt of china & its forces .

    Hi Shiv ,

you have high level influence in india defense , why can't you make this influence to insist in high level( who can take steps) , our army needs in Longer range MBRL like ( ex., china's variant 350 mm with 180 kms & 350 kms which they they are manufacturing in massive against india )& Howitzer guns in fastrack , after all its a service to our nation ( the place we belongs to ) .

  7. Can we stop this "the Chinese are humiliating us" nonsense? Jingoistic media reports and pointless whining do not change the fact that both we and the Chinese commit regular border violations to establish its disputed nature. It's standard SOP and childish hand-wringing by insecure jingos will not change that. Or by that twit Arnab Goswami on Times Now.

  8. NDTV News : China denies incursions by its troops into Indian territory across the Line of Actual Control. But NDTV has exclusive information that China is actively training and arming insurgent groups in Manipur and Nagaland.

On video, an alleged Manipur militant is interrogated. Intelligence officials say he confirms that China is training Manipuri militants.

Sources say at least 400 cadre of a Manipuri insurgent group, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), have been Read the rest of this entry »
