The final phase of integration of an air-launched version of the Indo-Russian BrahMos-A supersonic cruise missile on a Su-30MKI is in its final stages. BrahMos CEO Dr. A Sivathanu Pillai said at the Aero India seminar in Bangalore last week that a first test-firing would take place in 2014.
Integration and testing has been delayed hugely principally by the Sukhoi Design Bureau’s reluctance to prioritise cooperation in helping with the modifications required to integrate the missile with the Su-30. The BrahMos-A carries a reduced booster and fins for stability. There’s better news as far as the navy is concerned: The BrahMos will be tested for the first time from an underwater pontoon launcher this year.
Any reason for Sukhoi to delay?-Requested too much cost for this. Brahmos in SU30MKI will be very effective.
just one… not worth the effort… must carry… 3 per su-30…
What would be the weight of brahmos missile alone. Will it affect the manveroubility of SU 30. Is it for specific mission or it can perform multirole pregnant with brahmos. Any answers shivji?
Is it worth the cost and effort to convert this missile in to air launch, especially when you don’t own the missile 100% and have to go cap in hand to Russia and fill their pockets with money together with time overruns? I thought the impending home grown cruise missile (Nirbhay) will fill that gap if there’s a gap?
A singe missile can do lot of damage !it weight is at least two tons but a aircraft can be shot down !
prem
It is around 2.5 tons. So I would assume it will affect the maneuverability of the aircraft and will not be able to perform any other mission due to the weight and size of the missile.
3 missiles would be too much, and for strategic missile capability one missile per aircraft with some escort is totally accepted, at least by me.
Interesting would be to see if air launched Brahmos is a multirole missile or just anti-ship one.
Can we retire the Jaguars now that we can launch Brahmos from MKI ?
The funny thing is that this missile is likely to be more expensive than the pakistani floating junk it will sink 🙂
Mini-Brahmos @ 3 per MKI will restore the balance to pull the trigger.
Any news about Super Sukhoi 30?
pakistan also have 5 year + aginst india in missile techno.just like raad, babar, hatf 9 why india not do fast…nirbhay missile 2 year behind time and brhmos not air lunch ver. not rady and pak also test and induct dubble rang raad missile…what aspact …where nirbhay
Yakhont, on which Brahmos is based, was basically
developed for tube-launch from ships
and not optimised for weight.
ASMP & YJ-12 are much lighter than Brahmos-A.
Brahmos Aerospace looks to be
hard-selling it to IAF, doubtful that Russian Defence
agencies are interested in it.
Hope, DRDO comes with its own lighter Supersonic ASM quickly.
India's enemy #1 is the Congress Govt, Pak need not fear India
I believe Sukhois supermanouvrebilities will be poor like F-16 and F-18…

Why bramhos is not integrated with Tejas. As its indian platform and more mature then sukhoi in terms of indegenious and integration will become more easy..it will boost a chance of tejas to become front line fighter with lethal capability.
