India’s longest-range strategic missile, the Agni-V, is scheduled for its first test today. With all systems ready, sources reveal a test may take place at dusk today from Wheeler Island, off India’s eastern peninsular seaboard. The missile, with a range in excess of 5,500-km, is the first Indian missile that has the capability to deliver a nuclear warhead out to any part of China. The Agni-V test comes shortly after the 3,500-km Agni-III was inducted into operational service with the country’s Strategic Forces Command, and the testing of the Agni-IV.
Here’s wishing the Agni team a successful test!
UPDATE @ 18.22: My sources tell me the Agni-V won’t be launched today as a result of bad weather and an intensifying thunderstorm approaching over the Bay of Bengal. This is yet to be officially confirmed, but my sources say the decision has been taken.
UPDATE @ 20.03: Confirmed. Agni-V test postponed to tomorrow morning.

Its 5500km or 5000km ?
I know it doesn't matter that much. But that 500kms will pick it up from IRBM n place as ICBM (as per Us defense categorization)

Agni 5 Canistered animation!

About the range of missile. Agni 5's dimension doens't realy sit with its officially said range. Looking at other icbms of defferent nations. All the solid fueled icbm present in the world are of approximately same dimention as agni 5 but they possess much greater range as much as above 10000kms. Its looks like goverment is realy hiding the real range agni 5 becoz their are no other enemy country of india outside 5000kms range. Or may be these missile have realy poor propulsion system.
Wish you guys all the best and its going to be a success.Once again keep the hard work and congratulations-Sobin, UK
BEST OF LUCK
guys,
dont attack drdo…china and other powers didnt jump t df-21 etc. overnight…and 12000kms range overnight…its a step-by-step complex process…
we will get there too…you can't go from 3000kms to 12000kms in one big jump….
china would have created multiple smaller, interim range missiles too before their latest ICMBS…
have patience..and pray for Agni-V…and the next lot too…
thanks,
vishal B (not vishal veer)
@soumya It matters not for us whether China has missile of longer range as Agni-V will put entire China within India's strike range. The longer range missiles will only threaten USA and europe and this is exactly what we are trying to avoid.
no test today
BAD WEATHER 🙁
hey junkie anon 10:44 am : did it land on ur cave that in ur hurry 2 escape it mistyped the spelling of India..dont they teach angrezi 2 ur sorry lot..Speaking of failing… Pakistan has been a failure all these 64 years, and guess what it is your sorry country that has wasted something.. wasted American, Arabic, european and above all Chinese alms that were thrown at your sorry lot…
The True Indian Tax payer
if weather was bad today, it should have notified 24 hrs advance. I m sure technical problem. They should admit it.. its tax payers money.. and we are not fools..
During War also india will check the weather to fire the missile…

Troll @ 12:51Am …….
funny comment man….for a sec was imagining weather report on the screen in war command room…..:D
Jokes apart this being a first test its better sense to be safe than sorry.Lots of tracking devices to monitor performance might provide erratic behaviour in these conditions.
Dont, worry once this is a stable platform like Agni-1-2,Brahmos nd Prithivi these will punch holes in all weather conditions in every haters heart.
Awesome! India's 'Man on the Moon' moment. This project is a true success story.
All the best!
@suc*&*&*-10:44 AM – Mission Complete. Now crush your @@@@@
Launch is 100 % successful ! Congrats DRDO !! Time to corks to pop open !
Then go back to the lab and cannisterize it and launch it from a road mobile launcher with Army doing the launch prep operational work. Then launch it again from a submerged INS Arihant in the Bay of Bengal !
Today was only the first step to a long journey ahead. Great start now keep going !
