FLASH! Light Combat Helicopter Sea-level Trials From Tomorrow

PHOTO: MAJ VK SINGH / DPR DEFENCE
India’s Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) is all set to begin a week of sea-level trials early tomorrow morning at Tambaram, on the outskirts of Chennai. The second prototype of the LCH landed at Tambaram today along with a Mi-8 chase helicopter from the Yelahanka air force station. The trials which could stretch to ten days will include generic performance and handling at sea-level (Bangalore is at 3,000 feet above sea level), calibration of the LCH’s air speed measurement system and measurement of forces in terms of stress on various components of the platform.

Livefist wishes the test team the very best for the week ahead!

Incidentally — something big to look out for soon is the third prototype of the LCH, which my sources tell me will be the defining shape and configuration of the final LCH. I’m told it will look significantly different in terms of dimensions too.

  1. Sir,
1..Can this heli is stay away itself from chinese & pak short range air defence missiles.??
2..Can it possible that india install newly develop helicopter active defence system on homebuilt baby???

  2. Is the LCH with that weird camo flying cuz I saw some thing like that flying quite fast and low over Hosur sky yesterday ??

  3. Sir please give information, if you have, on ALH DHRUV GUNSHIP (RUDRA). I am eagerly awaiting for the news about Rudra. Last year in December I read an article wherein it is mention that the Rudra will be inducted in the army in May or June 2012, but has not got any further information. Secondly what happened to Nirbhay Cruise Missile. Is it another failure of our DRDO. I am waiting for your reply. Thanks

  4. Great news indeed. LCH has a good export potential as well. Changes are being incorporated quiet fast into the prototypes. Going by the looks of it the third prototype should also looker meaner apart from the usual integration of other parts.

  5. Like LCA , this too shall be just hot air . We should have locally manufactured the Augusta – 129 as it fitted all the requirements of our forces. Or gone for Mi 28 N as they would have come off a more reliable manuf. line that HAL.

  6. However you are, whatever you are; you are our, little birdie… I want to see you as hawks of the sky… way to go HAL.. jai hind

  7. Thank you Shiv. And guys in replying to your queries, i guess Rudra and LCH are the same. Please support HAL as we need indigenious helis and tanks. JAI HIND

  8. The most important is the helicopter launched air to air missiles and the air to surface missiles like the hell fire missiles. We need to integrate Nag and other weapons to this platform and reduce the radar signature.just like the american s did for AH 64 D.

  9. HAL is sooo incompetent onlee. The LCH "prototype" has been flying for… what… thirty years? And still no production version!

Look at the photo… taken by V.K. Singh when he was just a major, and we still tom-tom it.

    Whine whine whine…

  10. @ Generic Troll: if you don't know the facts then shut up and stop embarrassing yourself in public forums. LCH prototype flew for the first time in 2011 only. The project is going very nicely.
