India’s First Embraer AEW&C On Indian Soil

DRDO Statement: The first fully modified aircraft for India’s indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control System landed on Indian soil at CABS (Centre for Airborne Systems, Bangalore, a DRDO laboratory) at 22:10 hours at HAL airport, Wednesdat night. The aircraft and the flight crew was received by Dr Christopher Program Director and Dr K Tamil Mani, Chief Executive, CEMILAC. The acceptance of the Aircraft was completed over a period of 15 days at Embraer Facilities in Brazil,  by a team from CABS,  its work centres, CEMILAC, DGAQA & IAF. The Aircraft was flagged off from M/s Embraer, Brazil on 17 Aug 2012 at 1125 hours by Shri G Elangovan, Chief Controller R&D, Dr S Christopher, Programme Director, Mr K Tamil Mani, Chief Executive, CEMILAC and team members and was flown across multiple continents to arrive in India today.

The Aircraft ferried with several mission system external components of DRDO including the Active Electronically scanned Array Antenna with passive electronics fitted on the Aircraft. The arrival of this Aircraft marks the beginning of another phase of journey leading to the next major milestone of integration of the DRDO developed mission system, which will be followed by development flight trials in India beginning of 2013. It may be noted that this is the first Aircraft delivered by M/s Embraer for which the contract was signed in 2008. The next Aircraft is expected to arrive in December 2012.

  1. Great photos ! How about an article to go with it for a change.

Also would love some commentary on the MMRCA deal which it appears from recent media reports is running into some rough weather now :

Looks like the Indian deal is running into rough weather. First the Russian defence minister and now the Germans. What up really ? Haven't the French really learnt their lessons from the UAE deal. Or is the French now afflicted with Alzheimer disease ?

  2. DRDO developed radar on this Embraer…hahahhaha…Detection range is 1km or probably less than that
Hopefully it will be maintained by somebody other than HAL. else it will be another flying coffin.

    Regards,
    TAX PAYER

  3. Dumb idiot SRI!!! you don't need a Radar for seeing 1 km up above in the sky..you can do that with your naked eye!!! may taliban sodomize your ass!!!! with due apologies …..

  4. @SRI 11:18 PM Shut up your mouth my dear pakistani and protect your so called innocent talibani citizen .we are really proud what DRDO is doing …
    Regards The Actual tax payer

Embraer gives only a platform, the AEW performance will depend of the AESA DARDO'S radar capacity.
Brazil is looking and hoping for a good performance because the original swedish radar used on Brazil's AEW E-99 now is unavaible because now the company belongs to the rival company SAAB.
For NEW unities the Brazilian Air Force WILL NEED a new RADAR…

  6. @Anonymous 4:47PM Take it easy. It's the other way around. You useless J-17s and your small number of out dated F-16s are the cheap targets now. And we don't need to deploy anything sophisticated to shoot them them. Our old ruski sams can do the job.
