Big day! The sub-surface launched BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was testfired today for the first time. Here’s the official statement from the team:
VISAKHAPATNAM: The submarine-launched version of BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired at 1410 hrs on Wednesday(20th March 2013) from a submerged platform in Bay of Bengal off the coast of Visakhapatnam.
Creating history, the missile took off vertically from the submerged platform for its full range of 290 kms. Following a pre-defined trajectory, the missile emerged from underwater, took a turn towards the designated target meeting all mission objectives. All the telemetry and tracking stations, including Indian naval ships positioned throughout the flight path, confirmed the pin-point accuracy of the mission.
This is the first time that any supersonic cruise missile is launched vertically from a submerged platform. BRAHMOS vertically installed in a modular launcher in the pressure hall of the submarine will increase the ‘offensive power’ of the vessel without compromising on its ‘defensive power’ as the torpedo tubes can be fully utilised for defence. This new variant of the supersonic cruise missile will add more fire power to the Navy’s underwater weapon delivery capabilities.
When contacted by Journalists, Dr. Pillai, CEO & MD BrahMos said that “BRAHMOS missile is fully ready for fitment in P75 (I) of Indian Navy in vertical launch configuration which will make the platform one of the most powerful weapon platform in the World.”

does it suggests that project75i will go to amur as only this is offering vls.
great just great Rome was not built in a day and so is true for India
Great Guns …congrats Brahmos team..keep it coming.
Excellent…
Will the Scorpene Class Submarines be armed with any of the K-Missile Family?
An exceedingly good achievement.
Congrats to all concerned.
This news made me so happy 🙂 Hopefully India will have an indigenously designed Diesel electric Submarine with desi AIP technology fitted with Brahmos SLSCM (Sub launched super sonic cruise missile) and Varunastra torpedoes . Jai Bharat Mata 🙂
can we get close up pics of the missile coming out water and firing its rocket engines
@Shiv Aroor
Its such a shame that we have developed sub launched missile but dont have submarine to launch it, its like you have developed a bullet before developing a rifle to fire it.
Brahmos CEO says sub launched Brahmos is ready to be fired from P75I subs, but where are those subs? whe havent decided on design.
If only some modifications could be done on the existing Scorpene P75 subs may be we will have operational sub launched Brahmos, till then we will have to contend with trails from Akula 2 / INS Chakra and possibly the 2nd Akula for which i believe deal will be signed in the next year.
Thanks

on what platform will this be used considering the fact that, there are no subs capable ? And the project 75i is not even under RFP ?.
I appreciate the technical achievement and i am just a bit concerned since time of india has reported it as "Bullet without Gun" 🙁
what platform will this be used in future. Times of India has reported this as bullet without gun 🙁
project 75i is under RFP .
I am so happy about the technical achievement of the DRDO and will stand by my nation any time.
How in the name of God will they use this system on P75(I)?
We have not yet got a P75 sub commissioned so far.
The P75(I) is at-least a decade away, that too if the RFP is released this year.
Since, we do not yet have the subs to fire this missile we should install underwater pontoons near the coast of Pakistan and China so as to fire this missile :-)!
I think this missile will never be inducted as NAVY posseses no submarine today capable of launching it in vertical configuration and P-75 I is hell of a time away ( induction not expected before 2020)So by maybe the Hypersonic version of the BRAHMOS will be available by then and also NIRBHAY and probably its long range extended version too might be around.Even ARIHANT would MOST LIKELY carry NIRBHAY/EXTENDED LONGE RANGE VERSION rather than BRAHMOS which would be the mainstay of frigates/destroyers
Ok shiv that post was good but why don't you post any news about the armies testing or selection of a replacement for the INSAS rifle isn't it the biggest acquisition by India after mmrca ?
Good…much needed boost after Norbha missile's failure…..Brahmos team done a good job.
How well Dr. Pillai has organised the project at BrahMos . Full marks to him. I would give 8/10 to Dr, Saraswat for what he did and sowed the way for infrastructure that would lead the world in many technologies. He has some outstanding colleagues and next generation line up that is truly outstanding.I would give 6 marks to ADA for development of Tejas and they need to finish the MK 2 quickly and go for AMCA.I would 2/10 for IJT development to HAL and 0/10 for basic trainer.
TIMBAKTOO
It's like an arrow without a bow or a bullet without a gun.
Where the Submarine to fire it from?
Indians have no love for their country . Everyone is trying to escape from India .

India is a banana republicetsh .
Its really unfortunate that India didn't able to test missiles like sagrika & bramhos from SSBN platform. This clearly shows our lack of planning and investments too in the defense sector..
