indian army has largest troop commitment to UN…for the last 60 years!…
And the Chinese, US etc. give no soldiers for UN peacekeeping missions…
So what is India trying to achieve here?..goodwill?….respect?…bullshit…
people will respect india if it stands up for its citizens..and takes out LeT training camps in Pakistan, targets terrorist leaders from pakistan etc….
only strong actions earn respect..not this UN bullshit…
high time we stopped sending our brave souls to UN….more than a hundred have died already!…
While I salute the actions and memories of soldiers who have died as soldiers yearn to, the sad part of Indian deployment on UN peacekeeping missions is the the apparent willingness to accept casualties without any reciprocation.
This is the umpteenth incident involving Indian troops on a UN mission, in an area known to be restive, and walk into an ambush like Red Riding Hoods and then claim heroics, martyrdom, gallantry, professionalism without firing a shot in anger or taking down an attacker or two. The primary cause is an absolute lack of understanding of the Rules of Engagement. Whatever little is understood is subjected to perverse and CYA restrictions to make the concept soldier-proof against Indian bhoop singhs getting trigger-happy. The result is a tragic loss of lives and face.
The flip-side of the coin is the frenzy for UN dollars amongst Indian Army personnel, including officers, that is humiliating apparent to a casual observer. There are scandals galore within the Army of various forms of 'incentives' being paid or deducted, and dollar schemes perpetrated within IA units and by Indian MILOBS / UN staff to perpetuate the mad rush to earn and save UN dollars. One only has to see the goings-on in the UN Cell of the Staff Duties Directorate and the Ordnance Directorate to see non-entitled officers milk units waiting to go on UN missions for special uniform items, foreign consumer goods, manpower and what not. Training and orientation of troops proceeding on UN missions is unimaginative, irrelevant and unsupervised. The result is the loss of precious lives in the manner becoming all too common.
UN procurement is another current ballgame – it's the perpetual golden goose for these desi vultures.
For now I pause only in homage to the fallen warriors in distant lands. The rot runs really deep within the corridors of Sena Bhawan. Really deep.
Sadly no gallantry award is given to men serving abroad nor there are any chest thumping rhetorical programs on TV Channels.Just a mention in a snippet and over and out.Same is true for Army men dying in North-East or para military men dying fighting Naxalites. Our media is Elitist and Rhetorical.
