TOKYO, MAY 29: Japan prohibits itself constitutionally from exporting military equipment, but the country has now offered to sell Shinmaywa US-2 aircraft to India. The Prime Ministers of India and Japan today decided to set up a joint working group to study how India (there were no specifics in their statement, but both the IAF and Indian Navy have stated requirements) can acquire and operate the Shinmaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft. The joint statement issued today by the two leaders said, “They decided to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) to explore modality for the cooperation on the US-2 amphibian aircraft.”
What's the point of buying from Japan no nobody will make money off of them…
Was there absolutely no discussion on the possibilities of having a joint 5th Gen aircraft built together? i.e. AMCA + ATD-X??? That would have been a real kicker!
just 2, does it mean 1 each for army & air force. The deal should be for atleast a dozen.
There's no need of all this at the moment.
PM Just want to show off.
What is the advantages/disadvantages of this platform over Be-200? I believe UAC has already been in discussions with Finmeccanica over cooperating on payloads for Search and Rescue variants of Tu-204, certainly the same could be done for Be-200, which seems to have better prospects in growing user base recently than ShinMaywa, not to mention synergies if India wants it's capabalities in dedicated firefighting variants.
What process would be used to fulfill this requirement? A competitive tender of sorts?
