EXCLUSIVE Photos: LCA Tejas Oct 25 sortie abort on bad weather

As promised, here’s that bunch of LCA photos. The Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas’ planned sortie in front of Defence Minister AK Antony in Bangalore was aborted after abrupt thunder showers lashed the city. A lot of folks thought this might have been a team caught off guard. HAL sources however say the decision was taken because the inclement weather severely impaired the visual bubble available to spectators on the ground, and therefore, there was no real point putting the fighter into the air, when all anyone on the ground would have then heard would have been the roar of its F404. Oh well.

Coming up tomorrow: exclusive new photographs of the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT Sitara) and the HAL-built Hawk. Coming up the day-after: the first seriously nice pictures of the controversial Saras.

  1. He is superb looking… We hope that he joins IAF atleast by 2011…. Also, why not HAL/DRDO take help of ISRO ones as they are successful in building engines for our space launchers??

I term “Tejas” as he, as Tejas is name of a boy…

  2. There was a recent news article that Kaveri will be integrated with LCA & the test flight will happen in 2009. Shiv, can you please work on a article about this!!!!

  3. *giggles in delight*.

    Thanks Shiv.

A very lame excuse from HAL – at least we could have had a couple of new photos from this *all-weather* plane.

  4. shiv aroor you are providing a very valuable service to us all with these beautiful photos and articles on idnian defence products etc. keep the fires burning and go a long way! you are doing a commendable job.

Isnt there any low altitude tricks that Tejas could perform? For that matter apart from take off and landind, I have not seen Tejas perform any other low altitude manuevers.

Also never seen it take a vertical immediately after take off, or a high angle-of-attack stunts like going in a vertical loop (let alone cobra/super cobra etc). Performance on air shows can be deliberately shunted, but I believe Tejas is capable of these during its test flights at least….

  6. Really liked the 2nd non-shiny paint version of the Bird. It looks a lot better, the surface finishing is on par with other birds like the Griphen or Rafale…

  7. Also, can you upload Hi-Res shots of some of the pictures. I’d like to have it as a desktop background but they are too small, and my screen size is 1680 X 1050.
    Thanks.

  8. how long are we see pictures of LCA, when are we to see it operational. Is it only me that is getting a little annoyed by this monumental delay. Agreed that its high-tech for starters, but still i don’t like this hackneyed logic anymore.
