More Grainy Goodness: Arihant Leaves Harbour

Here’s another photograph of India’s indigenously developed nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine Arihant leaving Visakhapatnam harbour on Monday. It isn’t clear who took this photograph — it arrived from multiple sources, (including on Whatsapp) but without credit. So if anyone knows where this is from, please let me know. Clearly taken from dockyard with two tugs guiding the submarine out, two Coast Guard vessels in the background and a naval ship (frigate?) in the foreground.

  1. It is from naval jetty beside the harbour. You can see the white building and jetty diversion near coast guard vessels. You can very well check it in Google Earth

  2. That's a Shivalik-class frigate in the foreground. The MR-90 SAM FC radar position is a dead giveaway, as is the stern config with the flush flight deck. Talwars have the MR-90 too, but mounted further forward, and no flush stern.

All three Shivalik-class vessels are based at Vizag, so it's difficult to say exactly which one this is 😉

  3. Dear Livefist could please make an article regarding our Arihant capabilities and no capabilities because thers lots of theory regarding the capabilites abiut Arihant like the article in The Hindu Please its a request

  4. The frigate is one of the Shivalik Class judging by the shape of the Radar mast and the placement of the Barak VLS.Just not able to make out which one though !
