PRESS STATEMENT: “Eurofighter successfully added more air-to-ground capabilites last week when partner company Cassidian Spain achieved the first EGBU-16 precision guided munition avionic release. This accomplishment comes immediately after the first Paveway IV release carried out during February in the UK. Both reinforce the un-matched growth potential of the Eurofighter Typhoon and confirm the built-in multi-role capability of the aircraft.”

Last minute sales gimmick..
This is hype and nothing else. Uk, and others euro air forces are not relying on eurofighter for their air to ground missions in Libya. It speaks more than Cassidian bullshit.

a good insight of the Typhoon..
Are They Joking????
Yeah, growth potential, that's the term. Good luck and see U in 2018 for a decent air-to-ground capability
if India is looking for a robust air-to-ground aircraft, it might be wise to consider the Tornado instead of Typhoon… . If the target is a multirole bird, look elsewhere
"the un-matched growth potential of the Eurofighter Typhoon": indeed it is the most immature aircraft in the tender !
@Anonymous…
Yes..true but when it comes to combat missions where human lives are at stake every country rely on their time proven strike machines. This typhoon is relatively new machine and during war times the ground crew have to do some quick fix and other stuffs on the A/C so it's better to use the A/C which is well known to all the ground crew and the Pilots who are flying the machines are well synchronized with their planes. Remember during the Kargil conflict at first IAF used the Mig-21 but later used the Mirage-2000H.
They are most likely to depend on the F-35 for the strike missions supported by EFT in the air superiority role.
It isn´t a sales gimmick. They are announcing the successful completion of the job they were contracted to do, integrating GBU-16. There is no hyping of the Eurofighter as ´multirole´ fighter for export markets, or anything. Just because Shiv reposts this info on his blog doesn´t mean it is targetted at the Indian MMRCA contest.
I still can´t stand that Cassidian name.
Good for them, another cleared munition.
Laser guided rockets would probably be even more useful in Libya.
Brimstone has also seemed to perform very nicely.
Yes that can be sales gimmick, but Typhoon was developed as Air-superiority fighter, and it is 4.5++ Generation if I am not mistaken
F-15E silent eagle etc are NOT 5th Generation fighters.
F-22 and AV-8B Harrier II are the only planes in US arsenal which have TVC
Friends, it is nice to have a good plane like F-22 but the american policy of not sending the latest technology to other countries means
a) we may not get an F-22
b) we may get F-22 with most teeth removed like we might get with an outdated Radar, some latest avionics might not be put.
So we might get a good plane which at maybe 220 mil a plane will be as capable as Eurofighter or Rafale so what is the point to dish out more money.
Furthermore, it seems India is looking for planes/technology to counter the threat of our advanced neighbours (read china and pakistan) who have got chance to study Su-30 MK and thus they would have developed chance to counter our Su-30 MKIs so we need something different to counter them
About the participants in F-35 project, they have invested heaviliy and they will get the planes, but this is strike plane and not Air-superiority fighter as I know of. Infact UK MOD said that they will be using F-35 fr strike role and that Eurofighter will be used to punch hole in the skies for F-35 through.
Since f-35 is not available and not to be there for another 3-5 years so the need now should be fulfilled with secondary strike role.
Panavia Tornado was developed by UK German and Italian consortium too (like eurofighter) but its technology is very old that even UK is phasing out Panavia Tornadoes so no point in buying scrap…
Typhoon is mig21+++.
WTF is a Silent Eagle?? It's F15 STRIKE Eagle.

While Typhoons are performing well in air-to-air missions, 564 million pounds of work on adapting them for ground attacks is unlikely to be complete until 2018, the report said.
"The Typhoon is currently performing important operational tasks but the full multi-role capability won't be available for a number of years," said NAO chief Amyas Morse.
EF2000 would be never a good multrole, because bad definition design. It was made to be an interceptor hight altitud, not bomber. That why french rafale was omnirule developped since its orign design and don t participate to ef2000 program.
shiv when r u gonna post the report abt j20 ?
According to the MoD, Phoons have destroyed Lib tanks using LGB. See the vid at Telegraph.
The Phoons are not being used by RAF to fry T-Somethings in Libya because RAF Pilots are not trained to do ground missions. And all the laser targeting pods are still to be opened from their bubble wraps. No RAF pilots have had a MoD recommended Annual Refresher course on ground attack since 2008 due to defense cuts by the MoD.
Some excerpts “Four of the 10 Typhoons based at Gioia del Colle in southern Italy were to be sent on bombing missions until the RAF realised that pilots were not qualified to drop weapons.”
“It has since emerged that pilots were "out of date" on training, having completed their ground attack courses three years ago. RAF insiders said the MoD failed to fund annual refresher courses.”
“They have not done this since 2008 so the targeting pods are in storage in crates at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire."

Silent Eagle is a development of the F-15 with conformal weapons bay and substantial RCS reduction.
Google it!
15 April, latest news in the UK by the Public Accounts Committee confirm that Typhoon is a ripoff and a failure !
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13081691
typhoons are grounded…
The UK is currently canabalising its Eurofighter fleet to keep the others flying, due to a lack of aavaliable spares.
Sounds familier but now you pay a premium for the privilage. East and west not so different after all…
Don't confuse capability with policy. Typhoon can do it all and better than Rafale.
The aircraft being used in Libya are Tranche 1 whereas aircraft being offered in India are Tranche 3+. Huge difference in capability.
Audit office reports also misleading. The UK MOD has halved the number of aircraft they are buying. Spreading the R&D cost over half the number of airframes will increase unit cost!
