Navy Statement: Indian Naval Aviation received a major fillip with the arrival of the first of eight Boeing P-8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance and Anti Submarine Warfare aircraft at Naval Air Station Rajali, Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu today, 15 may 13. Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, AVSM, Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command presided over the event that was attended by Commodore Puneet Bahl, Commanding Officer, INS Rajali, representatives from the Command and Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of defence (Navy) as well.
The P-8I aircraft, based on the Boeing 737-800(NG) airframe, is the Indian Naval variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing has developed for the US Navy. The aircraft is equipped with both foreign as well as indigenous sensors for Maritime Reconnaissance, Anti Submarine operations and for Electronic Intelligence missions. The aircraft is fully integrated with state of the art sensors and highly potent Anti Surface and Anti Submarine weapons.
These LRMR/ ASW aircraft have been procured under the contract signed in 2009. The IN is in process of acquiring an additional four P-8I aircraft under the option clause. The induction of the P-8I aircraft into the Indian Navy would greatly enhance India’s maritime surveillance capability in the Indian Ocean Region.
INS… Immoral Naval Services…
OOPS! Should have been the naval insignia in the poster (last picture)
Considering present pla navy activities arrival of poseidon is an important one.it will enhance our navy's lethal power. checkmate p.l.a. Navy. In is roaring
Its a game changer in the maritime world. Chinese and paki submarine can't hide now.

Indian Navy on Modernization Spree
This Induction will Increase Naval Surveillance capabilities..
will p8i at ARK get special shelters on tarmac like su30mki's
Congratulations to Indian Navy !
Order an Aircraft carrier and Some F-35's to go with it, that is the only way we are going to have 3 aircraft carriers by 2020. USA is delivering everything. Good business.
@Stens: When are are inefficient in building the defence technology, how can be we be efficient in defending the country, running the shows.
The 65 years of independence and the rule by indians is slap on hard working indians.
why not order the bunch the politicians, babus, investigative agencies, justice system, armed forces from abroad.
hope these r not used for ferrying vips.
@Anonymous 8:53 AM: You are right.
Unfortunately importing is the only thing we know, so USA seems better than some other countries.
P-8I definitely is a game changer for hunting sub's & monitoring surface bearings. There are 2 pictures of P8-I's one with "IN-320" designation & another with "IN-321" designation are there two P-8I's stationed @ "ARK" ?
BTW good sense of humor by Anonymous @8:26 PM totally i agree with what you have said.Russian's hike the price as well as project gets delayed. In our DRDO some weapon platforms always remain in drawing boards forever they never take off from drawing boards & it will take another decade are so to test the prototypes & to enter into manufacturing line.
France wants to upgrade it's own Mirage 2000D, and with it's budget issues, wants to do so on the cheap. Is there any investigation of using the Indian facilities established to upgrade IAF's Mirages, to also do some or all of the upgrade work for the French Airforce Mirage 2000D upgrade (at a lower cost than doing so completely in France)?
it wasnt Tail No. IN 320 that landed in ARK but only 321.
IN 320 Picture displayed by p.Sengupta yestrday was an older file photo from the US.And for the benifit of all viewers & desi reporters who dont seem to be aware of this fact- plz note that it's a standard procedure followed by many OEM/countries wherin the 1st manufactured aircraft stays back for training & progressive testing while the 2nd onwards are delivered. This happened with C-130J & even the Brazilian Embraer AEW but strangely no one seemed to notice. Hv mentioned this in the "First P-8I Lands At Home Base Arakkonam Today" article comments sectioned as well.
The INS is really coming together as a blue water navy in the last 10 years.
Once we have a white paper on the submarine arm, the Indian Navy will be a force to reckon with.
