INDIAN NAVY TANKER INS DEEPAK / ARCHIVE |
The Indian Navy has announced interest in acquiring five new fleet support ships under the ‘global buy” category. The Navy has stipulated it requires ships with displacement of 40,000 tons in fully loaded condition, 200-metres long and a maximum beam of 25-metres. The Navy also requires its new ships to be capable of speeds “not less than 20 knots of maximum continuous speed, at ambient temperatures upto 40 deg C, in the fully laden condition upto Sea State 3 and while less than six months out of dock”. With a projected complement of 190 sailors and 24 officers, the ship will need to handle one multi-role helicopter. Full requirements here.
The Indian Navy last commissioned two Fincantieri-built tankers INS Deepak and INS Shakti into its fleet.
the procurement of additional tankers nd multi role vessels indicate that the navy is aiming to be a blue water force…..but it must also be noted that our carriers are not upto the job….vikramaditya nd vikrant are medium carriers …we need bigger carriers in the 65-75 k tons class like the QE nd POW….if britain is willing to sell PoW we must buy it at once nd configure it for CATOBAR….it would make a much better carrier than vikramaditya at almost the same price
the RFP says last date is 31 Mar 11. Can't even do cut-copy-paste correctly!
Another scam in the making… When there's a lack of essential war materials for army such as ammunition, NVG, bulletproof vests, a decent firearm- buying fleet tanker for power projection should be the least of our concern. No one respects india- an underdeveloped country. Lets fix ourselves first and then think of blue water ambitions.
last date is 31 Mar 11 :O …..do they need to feel sorry of feel ashamed???
rather than buying the war machines put some amount for the well-being of 800 million poor Indians who are earning 20 rupee in rural and 35 rupee urban areas of incredible India

Hello,
Double hull, as the name suggests, are tanker ship hulls with double layers of watertight hull surface. The inner and outer layers of the hull are on the bottom as well as the sides of the tanker ships.
