The Nirbhay cruise missile’s launch, booster separation and wing deployment were the only successful aspects in what has been a disappointing day for the DRDO. The missile flew to an altitude of 4.5-km and was 17-minutes out when it began to deviate from its predicted flight path, compelling the programme team to abort and remotely destroy the missile in mid-air, splashing its debris into the Bay of Bengal. The DRDO is putting a brave face (not much more they can do at this stage). A source I spoke to said the laboratories involved were looking into possible mechanical or electrical malfunctions.

next successful test cannot be immediate as we do not have the engines. we received only few engines around 6-7 out of which few have been expended. Indigenous engine is in the making. be patient.
Why do we have to show that much on TV? That too a private one…
DRDO – don't worry about failures, they are part and parcel of any development process. You will succeed in the very near future with the Nirbhay – today, the entire nation stands with you.
We finally see the Bird! Doesn’t look too bad and some the impression we saw on the net did worry me as it looked like a Second World war Bird. It looks more contemporary and I’m glad of this.
I’ve been reading all the comments on this on other sites and some of the comments do baffle me to say the least. They want an instant success and they dig up all the failures of the DRDO and its labs. They need to appreciate that this is a new child and such will take time from crawling to walking and to running. Just because other grown people are walking does not mean the child should forego the basics of attaining the art of walking. Congratulation to DRDO/ADE in achieving a partial success and build on this for the next successful (let’s hope) launch!!!
all is not well for DRDO they are not able to even successfully test fire a average subsonic cruise missile where as other countries are having stealth based low observable cruise missiles like AGM-129.
Even Paks have a cruise missile.

Think of the positives that came out of this "failed" launch:
a) Launcher works
b) Booster works
c) Wing deployment works
d) Sustainer works (it reportedly traveled for more than 250 Km before problems surfaced)
e) Telemetry works
f) Self-destruct works (some reports say it wasnt self-destructed. The engine was cut off)
g) A new organization within DRDO (ADE) is now competent enough to design a complex missile system. This has hitherto been possible only by DRDL – Hyderabad
Rest assured: the problems will be analyzed and fixed. We will see a Nirbhay successful launch within the next few months. This missile will be a winner

They should close all the missile test at chandipur as it disturbs the ecology of that area and it is high time to test all missiles at islamabad test range.Evan it is deviates from the path they can still let it go.

we need russian or israelis know how of integrating the navigation systems from its missiles which will turn BrahMos,Nirbhay a supersonic cruise missile, into a "super-rocket" with almost a sub-strategic capability above its normal tactical range, capable of hitting targets over 180-300 miles (300-500 km), from sea, land and air launchers, and capable of being armed with 3/4 MIRV'S nuclear warhead.
